Day 1 in the books! Overall, the day wasn’t bad – I wasn’t hungry, it was easy to follow the regimen, and I genuinely enjoyed my meals. I started the day with my usual hot lemon water while I meditated, journaled, and recited mantras before heading off to my 6 am hot yoga class. Had a great recentering class and was ready to begin my first day of eating on the 30 Day Detox…protein shake. I quickly realized that I’m not a huge fan of shakes because I prefer chewing crunchy food and a more savory taste. (I have yet to wrap my head around a savory shake.) I used the necessary Arbonne products, as well as frozen blueberries, spinach, and cauliflower. I like using these produce items frozen because ice isn’t needed and won’t result in a watered down shake. I also included some additional adaptogens – Maca powder, flax seeds, hemp hearts, and chia seeds, and some healthy fat – almond butter. The shake turned out perfect – smooth & creamy with just a bit of sweetness from the blueberries.
While I can’t say I was ever hungry , I did feel unsatisfied; however that is to be expected when doing a detox and taking all the processed (addicting) snacks out of the mix. We had a party for Labor Day so there were remnants of chips that I would normally not feel guilty about grabbing a few throughout the day, but that allowance is what got me to this point…and boy, did those chips taunt me!
By lunch, my head was spinning with all the yumminess I could put into my salad. It literally had ALL. THE. THINGS…crunchy romaine and red cabbage and carrot and cucumber, juicy smoky heirloom tomatoes, buttery sautéd oyster mushrooms, spicy cilantro, salty smoky salmon, tasty microgreens, briney tofu feta, and a savory dressing of curry powder, liquid aminos, sea kelp, apple cider vinegar, fresh cracked pepper, and everyday seasoning blend. The dressing is really what makes it…I just drizzle/sprinkle everything on top and it all comes together beautifully. I was so happy to crunch through it and my tongue was lit up with all the delicious flavors.
By 2pm, I was exhausted; which is a normal thing for me given I wake at 5am, workout, then chase 2 toddler boys around. I enjoyed my special treat – Pomegranate Arbonne Fizz Stick + Passionfruit La Croix. Seriously so good! So tasty and a great energy boost to finish the day out strong. By “dinner” I really wasn’t hungry, but forced a shake down because I feared waking in the middle of the night to an angry, rumbling stomach. Not sure that this was the best idea because it left me so uncomfortably full. I mean greens + cruciferous veggies + fiber is the best way to get full, but I think I overdid it. Drank a hot Arbonne Detox Tea and watched a little tv before bed hoping to relieve some of the pressure. While the tea helped quite a bit, when I don’t feel so hungry I will do a mini shake instead.
I also realized I didn’t drink as much water as I should have, which might have been why things felt so tight and trapped by the end of the day. My goal is 3 of these bad boys each day (25oz each). I think I got through 1…sad face. While I did get a bunch of water from other sources – my morning lemon water, 2 shakes, energy fizz-tail, and nighttime tea; I could say maybe I got 50 oz down, but still not where I wanted to be. I’ll focus on this more tomorrow.
My focus all day was on FOOD…what I was going to make for my next meal, what additions I could add to my shake, what snacks would be ok, what foods I couldn’t eat, and on. I know I am very Food-centric, but being conscious about my eating really magnified this issue. I really should not be thinking so much about food, which is probably why I have a tendency to snack and over eat. This will be something I will explore during this month, as well. It’s all about continuous growth, ya’ll.
